Born in 1938, Prof. Bernhard Maidl is partner and scientific advisor of Maidl Tunnelconsultants GmbH&Co.KG.
o. Prof. em. Dr.-Ing. Dr. h.c. mult. Bernhard Maidl is one of the leading worlwide experts in tunnelling. He studied Civil Engineering at
the Technical University of Dresden and at the Technical University of Munich. After the doctorate and the habilitation at the Technical
University of Munich, he became project manager and finally deputy branch director of Hochtief AG. From 1974 to 2004 as full professor,
he directed the Institute of Construction Technology, Tunnelling and Construction Management at the Ruhr University Bochum. His name
was outspreaded abroad as visiting professor at the University of California, Berkeley; the University of New South Wales, Australia;
and the Tongji University, Shanghai. For many years Prof. Maidl has been co-editor of the ,Bauingenieur’ magazine and he is author of
numerous specialised books and benchmark literature in tunnelling. Since 1986 he is a member of the List of Arbitrators of European
International Contractors. Between 1979 and 2006 he took part in more than 100 world wide tunnelling projects as manager of Maidl+Maidl
consulting engineers (IMM).
