Dr.-Ing. Ulrich Maidl

Born in 1965, Dr. Ulrich Maidl is the founder and manager of Maidl Tunnelconsultants GmbH & Co. KG.

Dr.-Ing. Ulrich Maidl has more than 20-year experience in tunnelling and in the international engineering and consulting business. He studied Civil Engineering at the Technical University of Munich and he received his PhD in 1994 as external Doctor at the Ruhr University Bochum. After two years working in the technical office of DYWIDAG AG München, he was responsible for the development of the foam technology for Earth Pressure Balanced Shields at Herrenknecht AG Schwanau, between 1992 and 1994. From 1995 until 1997 he was involved at Bilfinger Berger as calculator and later as construction manager in national and international tunnel projects. In 1997 he moved to Ingenieurbüro Maidl + Maidl where he firstly directed the Dutch branch, before becoming partner in 2004 and manager in 2005. In 2005 he was appointed as Expert in railway construction for the German Federal Railway Authority in the areas of geotechnics and tunnelling. Since 2007 he is publicly appointed and sworn expert for the IHK Bochum (Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Bochum) in tunnelling. He teached at the technical college in Bochum between 1997 and 1999 as assistant lecturer. Between 1999 and 2001 he taught tunnelling at the Delft Technical University. Since 2010 he is sole manager of Maidl Tunnelconsultants GmbH & Co. KG.
